“Seven ten?” asks Roger. “Then, how come I got a message from him at nine…”
“What’s that?” asks the desk clerk. Roger realizes Eve gave him the message.
“Nothing, nothing,” replies Thornhill. He spots Eve on the other side of the lobby. Eve doesn’t notice him. She steps onto an elevator and heads upstairs. Roger notes that the elevator stops at the fourth floor.
Roger turns to the desk clerk. “Sorry to bother you again,” says Thornhill.
“Uh-huh?” replies the clerk.
“Miss Eve Kendall is expecting me. She’s in room four something-or-other, I forget the number. Would you mind?” asks Roger.
The clerk looks up the room number. “She’s in four sixty-three,” he replies.
“Ah yes,” says Roger, “That’s right, thanks.” Thornhill heads for the elevator.
