“Look who’s here!” says Roger, holding up a photograph.<\/p>

“Who? Where?” asks Roger’s mother, startled.\u00a0<\/p>

Roger looks at a picture of six men, standing in front of a University doorway. Mr. Townsend is one of the men in the group.\u00a0<\/p>

“Our friend, who’s assembling the General Assembly this afternoon,” replies Roger.\u00a0<\/p>

“Roger, I think we should go,” says his mother.\u00a0<\/p>

“Don’t be nervous,” says Roger.\u00a0<\/p>

“I’m not nervous,” replies his mother, “I’ll be late for the bridge club.”<\/p>

“Good,” says Roger. “You’ll lose less than usual.” Thornhill presses the call button for the maid, next to the bed. He then walks into the bathroom and looks around. He finds a brush and a comb, then puts them back on a shelf.\u00a0<\/p>

“Bulletin,” says Roger. “Kaplan has dandruff.”<\/p>

“In that case, I think we should leave,” says Roger’s mother. The door buzzes.\u00a0<\/p>

“Too late,” says Roger. He walks to the door and opens it. The housekeeper stands outside.<\/p>

“You rang for me, sir?” asks the housekeeper.<\/p>

“Yes,” says Roger. “Come in a moment.” The housekeeper steps into the room.<\/p>

“What’s your name?” asks Roger.<\/p>

“Elsie, sir,” replies Elsie.\u00a0<\/p>

“Elsie,” says Roger, “Do you know who I am?”\u00a0<\/p>

“Sure,” says Elsie, “You’re Mister Kaplan.”<\/p>

“When did – – when did you first see me?” asks Roger.<\/p>

“Outside the door,” says Elsie, pointing at the door.
