Thornhill and The Professor are discussing what Vandamm is exporting.\u00a0

“Government secrets, perhaps?” says The Professor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Then why don’t you grab him?” asks Thornhill.<\/p>\n

“Still too much we don’t know about his organization,” says The Professor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Oh, I see,” says Roger. “What’s all this got to do with Mount Rushmore?”<\/p>\n

“Well, Vandamm has a place near there,” says The Professor. “We think it’s his jumping-off point to leave the country tomorrow night.”<\/p>\n

“Hmm,” says Roger. “You’re going to stop him?”<\/p>\n

“No,” says The Professor.<\/p>\n

“Well, then what are we going there for?”asks Roger.<\/p>\n

“To set his mind at ease about George Kaplan,” says The Professor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Oh, you, huh?” says Roger. “Hmm. Why, you’re George Kaplan, aren’t you!”<\/p>\n

“Oh no, Mister Thornhill,” says The Professor. “There is no such person as George Kaplan.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“What do you mean there’s no such person?” asks Roger. “I’ve been in his hotel room! I’ve tried on his clothes. He’s got short sleeves and dandruff!”<\/p>\n

“Believe me, Mister Thornhill,” says The Professor, “he doesn’t exist. Which is why I’m going to have to ask you to go on being him for the next twenty-four hours.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“What?” says Thornhill.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Come on,” says The Professor, “we’ll discuss it on the plane. “<\/p>\n

Roger starts to object, but the conversation is drowned out by the noise of the engines of the Northwest Lockheed L-749A Constellation.<\/p>\n
